WHAT IS SOCIETY AND CULTURE ABOUT?
This course is a combination of psychology, sociology, anthropology, political science, legal studies and religious studies.
This course aims for students to achieve social and cultural literacy by developing their knowledge and understanding about societies and cultures, developing their social and cultural research skills, and promoting positive values and attitudes essential to achieving social and cultural literacy.

THE SOCIAL & CULTURAL WORLD
This depth study examines the interactions occurring between persons and within and between groups, both in the contemporary world and in societies across time.
PERSONAL & SOCIAL IDENTITY
The focus of this study is the process of socialisation, and the development of personal and social identity in individuals and groups in a variety of social and cultural settings.
INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION
The focus of this depth study is understanding how people in different social, cultural and environmental settings behave, communicate and perceive the world around them so that they can better understand each other and their world
POSSIBLE CASE STUDIES:
Amish culture, traditional and modern Maori culture, Japanese culture, tribal beliefs and values in the traditional and modern world e.g. the Masai.
DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE IN:
Social theories of development, communication and barriers to communication across different cultures, social research skills.
CORE: SOCIAL & CULTURAL CONTINUITY & CHANGE
The focus of this study is to understand the nature of social and cultural continuity and change and to examine it, through the application of research methods and social theory, in relation to a selected country.
BELIEF SYSTEMS & IDEOLOGIES
Students examine the relationship of belief systems and ideologies to culture and identity. Past focus areas have included Buddhism, Islam and Feminism.
POPULAR CULTURE
Students develop an understanding of the interaction between popular culture, society and the individual. Past focus areas have included Harry Potter, Barbie, Superhero Films and Hip Hop
PERSONAL INTEREST PROJECT
The Personal Interest Project (P.I.P) is a research task in which students select, research and investigate a topic of their choosing that is relevant to the course. 40% of the external HSC mark comes from the PIP, the remaining 60% is determined by performance in the written HSC exam. Students begin work on this task at the start of the HSC course and have approximately 10 months to work on it.
WHO SHOULD CHOOSE SOCIETY AND CULTURE?
Society and Culture provides a thorough understanding of persons and society and is appropriate for students seeking careers in psychology, sociology, law, research, politics, journalism, politics, communications and media studies, business, administration, travel and teaching. In Society and Culture, students develop skills in research, analysis and communication and are well prepared for university or TAFE as they have well-developed, independent research skills.

Overall, Society and Culture is one of my favourite subjects and I find it very interesting
